A Two-day Training Program Conducted by CBSE Exclusively for English Teachers
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has organized a two-day training program exclusively for English subject teachers at Sir Padampat Singhania Education Center, Kanpur on 20 November 2013 so that teachers can help students gain proficiency in English speaking and listening skills during their school days itself. More than 140 teachers from around 60 different schools of the city participated in the workshop.
During the workshop, the English subject teachers learned how to take oral examinations more efficiently.
In an attempt to instill its assessment of language and oral skills among teachers, CBSE will organize such workshops in each city. Last year, the board had introduced the Assessment of Speaking and Listening (ASL) skills in order to make the language and oral testing in schools at par with international testing standards.
Kanta Vadhera, examiner trainer at CBSE, New Delhi along with the English expert Prachi Agarwal delivered lecture to the teachers during the workshop. As per the curriculum document for secondary schools, assessing ASL in class 9 and 11 carries 20 marks weightage, informed the coordinators.
The CBSE coordinators extolled the city teachers for their command in English and classroom management techniques as well as shared listening and speaking skills with the teachers during the workshop. The workshop also offered teachers a platform to clear their doubts pertaining to the class room activity.
Introduced in all CBSE-affiliated schools, ASL has been applicable to class IX and X as a part of the CCE since the academic session 2012-13.
